Pope Francis has arrived in Hungary for a three-day apostolic visit, with his plane landing at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc Airport a few minutes before 10am on Friday.
The head of the Church was received by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, while the Church was represented by Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom and Budapest, András Veres, President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Metropolitan Archbishop Philip Kocsis.
One hundred children were also waiting for Pope Francis at the airport, two of whom, dressed in Hungarian folk costumes, presented him with bread and salt.
Among the members of the papal delegation were Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State for the Holy See, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, head of Vatican’s Intergovernmental Relations. Upon his arrival, the Catholic Church leader will have a private meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén.
Pope Francis’ apostolic journey from 28 to 30 April 2023 and all public events related to his visit will be covered by almost all public media channels. A total of six live broadcasts – two on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – will be shown and heard on the Duna TV channel and Kossuth Radio.
