This year’s winners of the ninth edition of the Hotel of the Year competition were announced online. Gyula was named Tourist Town of the Year 2021. The professional prizes were awarded by a jury, but the more than one and a half million guest reviews available on szallas.hu also influenced the result.
The spa town “combines wellness, history, and culture,” and “the recreational opportunities are almost limitless,” the jury said. “You can dive into the local gastronomy or take a candlelit walk in Gyula Castle, but the Almásy Castle, the Centenary Confectionery, and the Gyula Castle Baths also offer an unforgettable experience,” they added.
The main prize, the Hotel of the Year 2021, was won by Avar Hotel Mátrafüred. Rudolf Semsei and Tamás Flesch were chosen as the role models of the tourism profession, the press release said.
The spa town also took part in the competition for accommodation facilities: the Castellum Apartment House from Gyula came third in the “non-hotel” category.
After Gyula, Balatonfüred came second and Hévíz third.
