Győr and Ingolstadt to Jointly Produce the Audi Q3

Hungary Today 2025.05.23.

At the end of March, Audi reached an agreement with the works council and management to transfer part of the production of the Q3 from Győr to Ingolstadt. However, there is apparently no cause for concern, as the decision is partly due to efficient utilization of production lines in Győr (northwestern Hungary), reported Automobilwoche.

The world premiere of one of Audi’s most popular models with an internal combustion engine is scheduled for mid-June. Initially, the new Q3s will be manufactured in Győr, where the company has been producing the model since 2016. Sales of the Q3 are scheduled to start in the fall.

Under the March agreement, Audi will manufacture some of the new Q3s in Ingolstadt, Germany, but this is scheduled for a significantly later date: according to information from internal sources, production of the Q3 is not expected to start at Audi’s main plant until autumn 2026. The relatively late launch is due to the extensive production preparations required for the compact SUV, including the optimization of the supplier network to meet the Q3’s requirements, according to Automobilwoche.

Audi plans to start production of a new, smaller compact SUV in Ingolstadt in 2026, instead of 2027, and in connection with this, it seemed logical to introduce the Q3 at the plant at the same time. The partial transfer of Q3 production to Ingolstadt is not expected to impact the Győr plant: Cupra Terramar has also been manufactured at Audi Hungaria since last year, and with the ramp-up of production of this model, the number of Q3s had to be limited.

Experts believe that the division of production between Győr and Ingolstadt will provide greater flexibility for the expansion of compact SUV production.

The Q3 is an extremely important vehicle for Audi: in 2024, it ranked third in Audi’s internal ranking of best-selling models with 215,174 deliveries, behind the Q5 (297,912 units) and the A6 (243,364 units).

After a weak 2024, Audi expects sales to pick up this year thanks to a number of important new models. Whether this will be successful also depends on how the third generation of the Q3 performs on the market.
