After winning the bronze medal at the European Championship, the Hungarian team of Renáta Somogyi, István Gaborecz, Sándor Fodor, Zoltán Gácsi, and Krisztián Füredi won the bronze medal at the 10th anniversary Gelato Ice Cream World Cup in Rimini, Italy.
Last year’s European Championship bronze medal secured the Hungarian team’s qualification for the World Cup final, where they achieved another sensational success, reports Turizmus.com. The team finished third out of sixty contestants from five continents.
Second place went to South Korea, while the gold medal was once again won by Italy, the defending champion, the Hungarian Confectioners Guild noted.
The Hungarian team’s theme was Alice in Wonderland, with each task matching the theme of the fairy tale.
During the four-day competition, the teams had to create a decorated ice-cream sundae, an ice-cream cake, an ice-cream dessert, three types of hot starters combined with gourmet savory ice-cream, an ice sculpture, a chocolate artwork, a sculpture made of brittle and caramel, and a “surprise” ice-cream with a milk and water base, all based on their chosen theme.
The Gelato World Cup has been held every two years since 2003. The competition brings together confectionery professionals from all over the world to raise awareness of the excellence of traditional artisan gelato, contribute to the professional development of the sector, and showcase the latest gelato trends.
