The Government is considering tightening regulations on the employment of migrant workers to protect domestic workers and their families, according to an announcement from the Ministry for National Economy (NGM).
A public consultation will soon be launched regarding a draft regulation aimed at safeguarding Hungarian jobs while simultaneously facilitating training opportunities for job seekers, which is expected to boost the mobilization of the domestic labor reserve.
The proposed draft, which will be available on the government portal, outlines that sanctions related to work permits may become more uniform.
If an employer has been fined for labor or labor protection violations within the previous year, their work permit application could be automatically rejected. Additionally, the permit may be denied if an employer refuses to hire Hungarian workers without justification or acts in bad faith during mediation procedures.
To prevent potential abuses, the draft will also prohibit private recruitment agencies from recruiting third-country nationals from outside the EU. Instead, efforts will focus on increasing domestic employment by providing job seekers with training programs tailored to their specific life circumstances and aligned with labor market needs.
The new scheme is expected to simplify the selection process for training while offering more support to job seekers and public sector employees.
The government stressed that its priority is the protection of Hungarian workers and jobs. Foreign workers will only be employed when there are no available Hungarian workers to fill vacancies. The NGM reiterated that the government will continue to regulate the employment of guest workers with strict guidelines to safeguard Hungarian jobs, workers, and families.
