Government to Support 141 Cultural Festivals Next Year

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.12.12.

Preserving and strengthening the position, prestige and quality of Hungarian culture is a priority for the government, therefore it has awarded funding to 141 cultural festivals to be organized next year within the framework of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary’s (NKA) call for proposals, announced the Ministry of Culture and Innovation on Tuesday.

As the statement reads, the Ministry has increased the amount of the National Cultural Fund’s College for Cultural Festivals tender to HUF 800 million (EUR 2 million), that will be used to support 141 festivals next year. In evaluating the applications, the College for Cultural Festivals, in addition to preserving national traditions, paid special attention to new, innovative initiatives and assessed the efforts of applicants with a high-quality program.

As they write, an important criterion in the judging was to maintain the most proportional national coverage possible and to support Hungarian festivals of value in the Carpathian Basin.

Applicants were expected to ensure that the supported festival enriches national culture and seeks to showcase young talent alongside prominent Hungarian and international performers.

The Minister of Culture and Innovation, János Csák, decided to award the grants on the basis of a proposal for a decision submitted by the College for Cultural Festivals. The list of supported festivals is available here.
