The President of the European Commission has made the release of further EU funds conditional on changes on LGBTQ and migration issues, while the Commission and the European Parliament are trying to put pressure on the Hungarian government on two issues on which Hungarian voters have clearly expressed their opinion, the Minister responsible for the Prime Minister’s office said at a government briefing on Thursday.
Gergely Gulyás informed that Wednesday’s debate in the European Parliament (EP) gave everyone a clear picture: although the European Commission has acknowledged the steps taken by the Hungarian government, primarily to ensure the independence of the judiciary, but
the Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, made the release of further EU funds conditional on changes in the government’s stance on issues such as LGBTQ and migration .
He stressed that the committee and the EP are trying to put pressure on the Hungarian government on two issues where Hungarian voters have made their views clear, with the anti-migration position winning more support than in any previous referendum, and even more support than in the referendum on protecting children from LGBTQ propaganda. The was an allusion to the recent referendum where people were asked, among other issues, about their views on migration and allowing LGBTQ ideology into schools.
On issues that are not harmful, the Hungarian government is willing to reach an agreement, but on issues on which Hungarians have made their views clear, this would be undemocratic and unacceptable, the minister stressed.
In February, teachers, kindergarten teachers and vocational training teachers will receive an average pay rise of 32.2 percent, while another 21 percent increase is expected next year, and the government will double teachers’ salaries between 2022 and 2026, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office informed. The average wage of teachers is expected to be over 672,000 forints (EUR 1760) this year, more than 812,000 forints next year and around 880,000 forints (EUR 2300) in 2026. This means that in between 2022 and 2026, teachers’ salaries could double, he added.
The minister indicated that all teachers will receive the decision on the increased salary by 30 January.
