Speaking ahead of the Hungarian Ball in Zurich, Lőrinc Nacsa, Secretary of State for National Policy of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that Switzerland has a Hungarian community of 50-60,000 people, and the Hungarian government will continue its programs to help the diaspora this year.
He reminded the audience that the Diaspora Program had recently been announced, that would enable young people living across the border to visit Hungary. In addition, the Hungarian weekend schools in Switzerland, of which there are already 260 in the diaspora worldwide, are also operating.
The politician announced:
Hungary will again organize this year’s meeting of weekend schools, the most important meeting of Hungarians in the diaspora after the Hungarian Diaspora Council.
He added that within the framework of the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Program, there are also scholarship holders in Switzerland who have come from Hungary and are helping Hungarian life there with the support of the government.
Lőrinc Nacsa described Switzerland as an important place for the diaspora in Western Europe, and added that in Western Europe, it is often difficult for Hungarians because “the liberal press is telling countless untruths about Hungary.”
Lőrinc Nacsa informed the press that
before the Hungarian Ball he had met with the leaders of the Hungarian community in Switzerland, “who are doing their best to preserve the Hungarian identity, culture and traditions.”
At the ball, he also had the opportunity to meet Swiss politicians, with whom he discussed “issues of common European destiny, but first and foremost peace.”
During his stay in Switzerland, Lőrinc Nacsa also visited the Hungarian Children’s Dance Festival in Zurich, organized by the Hungarian Association Zurich on the same venue as the Hungarian Ball.
“It is a special honor for us that Secretary of State for National Policy Lőrinc Nacsa, accepted our invitation and honored the Hungarian Children’s Dance Festival in Zurich with his delegation. This gave him the opportunity to get to know a small but all the more important part of the Hungarian diaspora in Switzerland,” said László Zennyessy, President of the Hungarian House in Switzerland, in a Facebook post.
