Hungary is providing assistance to Montenegro in fighting forest fires, sending a helicopter with a crew of seven to the country for firefighting operations, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Following a telephone conversation with the Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister reported that Filip Ivanovic had requested international assistance, including from Hungary, as a real disaster situation had developed in his country due to prolonged drought and high temperatures.
Raging wildfires are sweeping across Montenegro, threatening areas near Podgorica & the coast. With weather making firefighting difficult, DPM @fivanovicpg asked for help and Hungary is sending a Air Force helicopter with a 7-member crew to help bring the fires under control.

According to the Minister, rapidly spreading forest and bush fires have now burned down an area of approximately 40 square kilometers in Montenegro, including the capital and tourist-frequented coastal regions.

“Following our telephone conversation today, our country will dispatch a helicopter equipped with a two-cubic-meter water tank for firefighting operations, with a crew of seven, to help contain the forest fires,” Péter Szijjártó announced.
