The Hungarian Government has rebuilt schools, kindergartens, medical clinics, a government office and a service center in the Kyiv region, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Wednesday on social media.
Levente Magyar said this was his fourth visit to Kyiv since the war, and while Tuesday was a day of political consultations, Wednesday was spent reviewing the humanitarian actions and activities being carried out in the Kyiv region, which is one of the parts of Ukraine that suffered very serious war damage in the first months of the war.
When the Russian forces withdrew, pushed out by the summer of 2022, Hungary was one of the first of Ukraine’s partners to come in and assess the damage, to start consultations with the local authorities on what was really needed if we could bring humanitarian aid to the area,”
the State Secretary recalled.
He stressed that Hungary is not supporting Ukraine with arms. “We want to provide the kind of people-to-people assistance on a daily basis to those in need, which we can use to improve lives, and we have been doing this consistently for the third year now.”
The State Secretary said that the area around Kyiv has become a deprived region because of the war. “Of the 720 schools in Kyiv’s province, 250 have been destroyed or very badly damaged in the fighting. You can imagine how many children are affected.”
He added that there are tens of thousands of children who have been unable to go to school or kindergarten for years.
Therefore we have launched a major program here in this region, focusing on children, rebuilding kindergartens, schools, health clinics, a government office for parents and a service center, an office where they can go to do their business without having to be away from their children.”
He added that the Hungarian government’s aim was to make everyday life easier in the region. “It is in this spirit that we are here today, in a school that we can give back to the children here in a few months’ time, so that they can start their studies in September,” Levente Magyar concluded.
