The government has introduced new state scholarships for married university students up to the age of 30, who have children, as reported by Telex and 24.hu.
Under an amendment passed this week, eligible students will no longer have to pay tuition fees. Those previously enrolled in self-financed programs will be transferred to state scholarships, providing them significant financial relief. For PhD students with children, additional benefits include an extended deadline for thesis submission and eligibility for childcare allowances.
According to the amendment, the eligibility period for the scholarship begins from the semester in which the child is born, adopted, or the student is married, and lasts until the semester of the student’s 30th birthday.
These measures are aimed at reducing financial burdens for young parents in higher education and supporting family formation among students.
As Hungary Today earlier reported, mothers under 30 can also benefit from a new tax measure, allowing them to save up to HUF 900,000 (EUR 2,000) annually, in addition to their scholarship support. This financial aid, combined with the scholarship, provides young families with substantial support, enhancing their overall quality of life and economic security.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to family support and population growth, helping young parents complete their studies without sacrificing financial stability.
