The government is calling on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to take action to ensure that Ukraine removes Hungarian bank OTP from the list of international sponsors of the war, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in Paris on Wednesday.
Speaking at a meeting of the OECD ministerial council, the Foreign Minister underlined that Hungary is carrying out the largest humanitarian operation in its history, with more than a million Ukrainian refugees arriving in Hungary and around 1,300 refugee children studying in 1,300 schools. He stressed that the government is supporting the OECD’s assistance program in Ukraine, and is helping bilaterally to rebuild hospitals and schools and contribute financially to the operation of important institutions.
However, as Péter Szijjártó pointed out, the competent Ukrainian authorities had included OTP, the largest Hungarian bank in terms of national economic performance, on the list of international sponsors of the war.
This is absolutely dishonest, it has nothing to do with reality, the bank has not violated any Ukrainian or international rules,”
the Minister emphasized, calling on the OECD to take action to remove the bank from the list.
Szijjártó then warned that keeping the financial institution on the list would pose obstacles and challenges to enhanced cooperation with Ukraine.
