History, art, and music came together in the Grassalkovich Palace in Gödöllő (central Hungary), said the Minister for Culture and Innovation on Tuesday.

Balázs Hankó emphasized that the performance pays tribute to three legendary artists: Jenő Huszka, who made operetta a Hungarian national treasure, was born 150 years ago; Mór Jókai, famous Hungarian writer, was born 200 years ago; and Johann Strauss, whose work The Gypsy Baron was inspired by one of Jókai’s works, was also born 200 years ago.

The Minister encouraged those present to step out of their everyday lives and immerse themselves in the world of melody and romance.

Tamás Ujváry, managing director of Gödöllő Royal Palace Public Benefit Nonprofit Ltd., said that the palace received its operating license exactly 30 years ago and will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, and that this double anniversary will be commemorated with special programs.

The performance of The Fairy Queen will feature Jenő Huszka’s most famous compositions from the operettas Prince Bob, Gül Baba, Baroness Lili, Maria, the Lieutenant, Erzsébet and Freedom, Love. The second part will feature excerpts from Johann Strauss’s operetta The Gypsy Baron.
