Leading Hungarian politicians congratulated Giorgia Meloni, who was sworn in as Italy’s new prime minister on Saturday.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated Italy’s new head of government on his social media accounts. “Giorgia Meloni is a woman who never gives up,” he wrote on Facebook.

Giorgia Meloni assured Viktor Orbán of her cooperation in a message on Twitter.

President Katalin Novák tweeted that she congratulated “her longstanding ally and friend” Meloni over the phone.

Among others, Balázs Hidvéghi, an MEP of Hungary’s governing Fidesz party, also congratulated Meloni. “One of the large western European nations being led by conservatives is exactly what the EU needs,” he wrote.
For years Fidesz has maintained close links with Meloni’s party, the Brothers of Italy (FdI), as well as with the European Conservatives and Reformists party family, also headed by the Italian politician.
