Gergely Siklósi Wins Silver in Épée Fencing at Tokyo Olympics

Hungary Today 2021.07.25.

Gergely Siklósi took the silver medal in épée fencing at the Tokyo Olympics, having lost the final to French athlete, Romain Cannone.

The 23-year old Hungarian sportsman arrived at the Olympics as one of the main favorites of the tournament. The reigning world champion (Budapest, 2019) was also listed Number One on the International Fencing Federation’s world ranking.

Siklósi made it to the final with a great fencing performance, defeating the defending Olympic champion, Pak Szang Jung, among others.

However, in the last match he faced a rival in excellent form, and the relatively unknown Romain Cannone deserved to finish first.

Siklósi can still be satisfied with being second best at the tournament. He is still very young and has plenty of time to claim a gold medal.
