Starting today, the wholesale price of gasoline will decrease by 5 forints gross (0.013 euros), while the purchase price of diesel fuel will decrease by 2 forints gross (0.005 euros), Holtankoljak.hu reported.
The oil company MOL has responded to developments in the oil market, with the price of Brent falling significantly by around 7 dollars (5.97 euros) last week, the market reacting positively to the ceasefire in the Middle East, and the forint also strengthening against the dollar. On Thursday, the exchange rate hovered around 341 forints (0.855 euros), while yesterday the greenback was still trading at around 346 forints (0.868 euros).
On Thursday (June 26, 2025), the average prices at Hungarian gas stations were 603 forints (approximately 1.51 euros) per liter for 95-octane gasoline and 608 forints (around 1.52 euros) per liter for diesel. These prices are expected to decrease starting today, Friday, following the latest changes in wholesale pricing.
Along with the new prices, MOL also announced other changes. Prices may change more frequently as the oil company switches to a daily pricing system.
Until now, wholesale prices have generally been adjusted three times a week in line with market developments. However, the oil market has seen significant movements and unexpected turns in recent times, allowing MOL to respond more promptly to market changes, thereby justifying the transition.
It is not yet clear whether more frequent price changes will cause difficulties for gas stations; this will only become apparent in practice. One thing is certain: drivers will now need to monitor prices more closely.
