Fuel Consumption Slightly Down in the First Nine Months

In the first three quarters of this year, 0.8 percent more petrol and 1.2 percent less diesel were consumed in retail sales in Hungary than in the same period last year, with fuel consumption falling by an average of 0.4 percent, the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MÁSZ) revealed on its website on Thursday. However, there is a growing demand for premium fuels.

Total consumption was 2.92 billion liters in the first nine months of the year, with 1.16 billion liters of petrol and 1.75 billion liters of diesel being filled into vehicles, according to aggregate data from MÁSZ member companies.

207.4 million liters of premium petrol were consumed in the first three quarters of the year, 14.0 percent more than in the same period last year.

Motorists used 954.7 million liters of 95 petrol, 1.6 percent less than in January-September last year.

Consumption of premium diesel was 147.1 million liters in the first nine months, up 17.6 percent from a year earlier. Sales of non-premium diesel were 1.61 billion liters, down 2.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

Hungarian Petroleum Association member companies operate around 1,050 petrol stations in Hungary, with around 75 percent of total retail petrol sales and 66 percent of diesel sold by MÁSZ members.

Fuel prices are falling this week, with the wholesale price of diesel dropping by  HUF 5 gross from Saturday. The price of petrol will remain unchanged in the second half of the week, Holtankoljak.hu reported. Taking into account this week’s changes, the average price of petrol is HUF 605 (EUR 1.51), while that of  diesel is HUF 606 (EUR 1.51).
