Last year, 11.1 percent less petrol and 18.4 percent less diesel were consumed in Hungary than in 2022. The fuel consumption fell by an average of 15.7 percent, the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MÁSZ) revealed on its website.
Total consumption was 3,916 million liters last year, with 1,537 million liters of petrol and 2,379 million liters of diesel being pumped into vehicles, according to overall data from MÁSZ member companies.
Among fuels, 245.5 million liters of premium-grade petrol were consumed in 2023, 35.2 percent more than a year earlier. Motorists used 1,291.5 million liters of 95 petrol, 16.5 percent less than in 2022.
Consumption of premium diesel was 175.2 million liters last year, an increase of 1.8 per cent on a year earlier. Sales of non-premium diesel were 2,203.8 million liters, a 19.6 percent drop compared to the year-earlier figures.
According to the association, on average, its member companies sell around 75 percent of total domestic sales of petrol, while retail sales of diesel by MÁSZ member companies account for around 60 percent of total domestic sales. At the end of 2023, member companies operated 1,051 service stations.
