Between early October and mid-November, 25 people died of frostbite in Hungary, the Hungarian Social Forum (MSZF) reported on Sunday.
Most of the deceased were elderly, sick people, who died from the cold in unheated homes or after being taken to hospital because they were beyond help. Frostbite also affected people who had spent the night outdoors in freezing or near-freezing temperatures, noted the MSZF.
The Human Rights Forum once again reminded the public that by listening and helping, lives can be saved. The responsibility to save lives is particularly great in a context where the social system is neglected by the state and homeless people are still not provided with social housing.
