Christian Hafenecker, Secretary General of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), sharply criticized the European Union on the second day of the CPAC Hungary conference in Budapest and spoke out in favor of a Europe of sovereign fatherlands. He expressed his gratitude for the invitation and took the opportunity to outline his party’s principles and its vision for the future of Europe.

The Austrian politician posed the crucial question that he believes Europe faces: the choice between sovereign nations and a centralized superstate. He emphasized that the FPÖ stands firmly on the side of free peoples, Viktor Orbán’s government, and the principle of self-determination in Europe.

The FPÖ secretary general did not mince words when it came to the current values of the EU. He stated that these were “no longer values.”

Hungary, he highlighted, is one of the “last bastions of resistance” opposing the values prescribed by the EU, such as “eco-Marxism” and “gender ideology.”

Countries that criticize these policies are financially blackmailed, and the rule of law and democracy are misused as weapons by the EU, he said.

As an example of the EU’s lack of transparency and double standards, Christian Hafenecker cited the text messages of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which he described as one of the biggest corruption scandals in the EU, but one that has been met with indifference. He went on to criticize the fact that Hungary is attacked as soon as it criticizes migration and gender ideology. The blocking of EU funds for Hungary is a direct consequence of the country not taking the desired “leftist direction.” The politician spoke of open manipulation and a lack of political neutrality in Brussels, where values are supposedly defended but freedom of expression is restricted.

The statement by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said that anyone who deviates from the EU consensus must expect consequences, was particularly worrying

he noted.

According to Hafenecker, this is a step toward the de-democratization of Europe.

The FPÖ secretary general highlighted the Athens Agreement of Patriots, which focuses on the fight for freedom of expression and establishes fundamental values. He called for an “EU of diversity and not a Europe of conformity,” because “Europe belongs to the peoples.”

Another central point of his speech was migration policy. Hafenecker sharply criticized the fact that only every fifth migrant who should actually be deported is required to leave the country, without the EU taking any action against this. He described Migration Commissioner-designate Magnus Brunner as the “patron saint of illegal migration.”

While Hungary protects its borders, the EU imposes “migrant distribution” as a compulsion.

He spoke out clearly against migration and EU centralization and assured that the FPÖ stands alongside those who oppose the “Brussels movement.” He concluded his speech with the assurance: “You can count on us for a free Europe.”
