A case of serious national security risk has come to light, as the National Security Committee of the National Assembly was recently informed by intelligence leaders that there are signs of increased efforts to expand the domestic military production capacity.
Zoltán Sas, the chairman of the committee, told Magyar Nemzet that foreign nationals, both inside and outside the federal system, were trying to gain decisive influence, i.e. ownership, in a Hungarian defense industry facility and to take control of production. Thus, a domestic company was singled out to produce explosives and sell them in the war zone, they write.
In the case uncovered by the services, they were specifically planning to produce ammunition, gunpowder, and explosives, which would have then been supplied to the war zone in Ukraine,”
the chairman said.
The politician refused to comment further on the facility concerned or on the identity and nationality of the persons seeking influence there.
As the portal notes, the effort uncovered by the secret services also posed a serious risk, because the Hungarian government has repeatedly made it clear that it would not deliver weapons or devices capable of killing people to the Ukrainian war zone, as this would endanger the security of Hungary and the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
