Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó discussed the fight against illegal migration with leaders of international organizations in Vienna on Monday.
It is of utmost importance that Brussels finally changes its pro-migration policy, which encourages many people to risk their lives and pay thousands of dollars to human smugglers in an attempt to enter Europe, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in Vienna on Monday, MTI reported.
It should be made clear that entry to Europe is only legal; illegal immigrants have no place here and we will not let them in. We Hungarians are doing this quite firmly, but unfortunately, Brussels is still making moves to the contrary,”
he stressed.
According to Szijjártó, human smugglers “sometimes pose as NGOs;” for example, NGOs operating rescue boats in the Mediterranean are “in practice people smuggling gangs trying to put pressure on European countries to let in illegal migrants from who knows where.”
The Hungarian minister met with, among others, Harald Mahrer, President of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO), Gerd Müller, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Michael Spindelegger (pictured above), Head of the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna.
