According to Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, it is in the interest of the whole world to seek peace rather than escalation in the Ukraine war.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó attended the joint meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Buenos Aires on Thursday.
According to Szijjártó, “it is a naive illusion that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine can end the war,” because a US-Russian agreement is necessary for a lasting peace. He pointed out that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart, Joe Biden, are expected to attend the upcoming G20 summit in Indonesia.
“If they are at the same place, I think they would find it very difficult to explain to anyone on earth why they are not meeting,” he noted. Szijjártó warned that the war in Ukraine is having serious negative consequences for the whole world.
“The world’s energy supply is in crisis, food supplies in many regions are in crisis, inflation is skyrocketing all over the world, economies are turning into recession and millions of people’s jobs are at risk,”
he said. According to the foreign minister, ending the war as soon as possible is in the interest of the whole world, but “some large and powerful countries and international organizations continue to use war rhetoric.” “Their statements and decisions are pushing this war towards escalation rather than peace,” he added.
