Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and State Councilor Wang Yi praised the effectiveness of cooperation between China and Hungary.
Comprehensive and strategic cooperation has been established between Hungary and China in recent years, from which the Hungarian economy has benefited greatly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said after holding talks with senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs.
When we have faced crises in recent years, Hungary has always come out of them stronger than it went into them, but Hungarian-Chinese cooperation has played an absolutely indispensable role in this,”
he said, citing the coronavirus epidemic as an example. Szijjártó pointed out that when the whole of Europe was waiting for vaccinations, Hungary was able to buy medical equipment and vaccines from China, saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
Wang Yi welcomed the agreement between the Hungarian and Chinese governments on a number of issues and underlined that they would like to further strengthen cooperation with Hungary and the European Union to improve living standards.
He also praised Hungary for its active participation in China’s Belt and Road initiative, mentioning Hungary’s positive contribution and the renovation of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line. “China will continue its friendly cooperation with Hungary, and we will support Hungary in finding the path of development that suits its own capabilities,” he said.
