“We must do everything possible to ensure the survival of the Hungarian nation and the preservation of our Hungarian identity,” emphasized Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in London.

Speaking at the opening of the new Hungarian School Plus in the heart of the UK’s capital, Minister Szijjártó underscored the shared mission of Hungarians worldwide to uphold their national identity and heritage. He acknowledged the complexity of this task, noting the need to preserve Hungarian identity not only within the homeland and the Carpathian Basin, but also among Hungarians living abroad.

Mr. Szijjártó emphasized the pivotal role of a robust motherland capable of supporting this mission, alongside a proud and self-aware Hungarian populace committed to safeguarding their cultural values and interests, even in challenging circumstances. He highlighted that central to Hungarian foreign policy is the principle that every Hungarian bears responsibility for their fellow citizens across the globe.

The Minister stressed the importance of cohesive Hungarian communities, particularly for those residing far from Hungary.

Institutions, he remarked, are instrumental in this endeavor, citing the establishment of the Hungarian House in London as a significant achievement. He commended the efforts of teachers who volunteer their time at the Hungarian School Plus to nurture the national identity among children. Recognizing the competitiveness of children’s leisure time, Mr. Szijjártó expressed gratitude to parents and educators for their dedication, highlighting the vital role of the Saturday school in London.

Encouraging attendees to leverage the resources provided by institutions like the Hungarian House, he urged Hungarians in London to actively preserve their cultural identity.

Reflecting on the phrase “Hungarians are a world nation,” Péter Szijjártó acknowledged the historical challenges and tragedies that have dispersed Hungarians globally, emphasizing the resilience of the Hungarian spirit in the face of adversity.
