Foreign Minister: Donald Trump Represents the Hope of Peace for the World

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.07.24.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó emphasized the significance of Donald Trump’s candidacy for the Republican Party in the upcoming US presidential election, describing him as a beacon of hope for world peace.

Minister Szijjártó highlighted that while the US presidential election has a substantial impact on global politics, Trump’s candidacy is even more crucial. He underscored Trump’s potential to bring peace, particularly to Central Europe, amidst escalating violence on the Russian-Ukrainian front.

“We all know that Donald Trump represents the hope for peace in the world. We all know that if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, it will be a great chance for peace to return to the world, to Europe, and, more importantly for us, to Central Europe,” he stated. The Foreign Minister added that an external influence is necessary to bring the parties in war to the negotiating table, suggesting that only Trump could achieve this.

Péter Szijjártó also addressed the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy’s decision to convene the informal Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels instead of Budapest, downplaying its significance.

He remarked, “it was all the same to me at the beginning, and it is all the same to me now. Now I do not have to go to the Puskás Stadium, which I would have much preferred, but I will have to go to Brussels again, which is a much less favorable place.”

Regarding the previous day’s EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Mr. Szijjártó described facing “unbelievable hysteria” from pro-war politicians frustrated with the Hungarian PM’s peace mission. Despite this, he noted a breakthrough in support from Slovakia, marking a significant moment of open and clear backing for Hungary amidst pressure.

“It was the first time that someone stood up for Hungary openly and clearly, not by text message, not before or during the meeting, and I think our Slovak friends should never forget this,” he emphasized. The Minister highlighted the patriotic cooperation between Hungary and Slovakia, despite their differing political spectrums, as a testament to their shared commitment to peace and mutual support.
