The only solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war is a ceasefire and peace talks, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade on his Facebook page. He indicated that this would be the position he would also take at the ongoing NATO summit in Washington.

Minister Szijjártó noted that the situation in Ukraine is worsening: the tragic events, including the deaths of children, are heart-wrenching, and the situation is expected to deteriorate further.

There are more and more weapons, increasing war propaganda, and a serious danger of escalation.

We have been warning about this for weeks. The only way to stop the senseless destruction and killing, to save lives, and to prevent further violence is through a ceasefire and peace negotiations,” he said.

Péter Szijjártó added that this is why they had embarked on a peace mission and why they are heading to Washington.

“This is the stance we will take at the NATO summit: there is no solution on the battlefield. It is incomprehensible that after two and a half years this is still not understood. The draft decisions for the next three days show a complete lack of understanding: NATO is planning to launch a mission to support Ukraine.

We will not be part of this: we will not supply weapons, we will not provide soldiers, and we will not participate in financing,” he emphasized.

The Foreign Minister concluded by stressing that the threat of escalation is serious, the war is becoming increasingly violent, and pro-peace voices must be amplified.
