Diesel and petrol prices in Hungary have remained stable for almost two months.Continue reading
For the fifth time in a row, fuel prices in Hungary will be partially more expensive, based on a recent report by Holtankojak.hu.
According to the fuel price monitoring blog, from Thursday wholesale prices for petrol will remain unchanged, but the wholesale price of diesel will rise by HUF 4 (EUR 1 = HUF 395), therefore it is likely that motorists will be able to fill up their vehicles at higher prices from today.
The average prices yesterday were:
If the recent price change is transferred to petrol stations, the average price of diesel will jump to over 590, Világgazdaság points out. It is important to stress that these are average prices, from which typical fuel prices may differ by a few forints.
This is the fifth partial increase in a row. Last Monday, the wholesale price of petrol was increased by HUF 2, while diesel remained unchanged. On Wednesday, the price of petrol rose by HUF 2 again, while diesel fell by the same amount. Then came Saturday’s increase (price of petrol rose by HUF 4), then Tuesday’s (price of petrol rose by HUF 2) and most recently today’s. This one is different from the previous ones in that this time diesel is more expensive.
Before these recent increases, fuel prices in Hungary fell for two months.
Overall, between January and now (with an emphasis on wholesale), the price of petrol has risen by HUF 28 per liter and the price of diesel by HUF 5.
Indeed, HUF 41 is due to the mandatory excise duty increase in January. Excluding this, petrol prices have fallen by HUF 13, while diesel prices have fallen by HUF 36. Currently, an average 50-liter tank of petrol costs HUF 500-1,000 more than in December last year.
A contributing factor to the increase in prices is that the price of Brent oil has been rising steadily for two weeks; on September 10 it was trading at USD 70 a barrel, now it is around USD 75.
