The Hungarian government’s disagreements are with the Hungarian left and not with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Saturday.
Zelensky is the president of Ukraine, so it is natural that he puts the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people first, Szijjártó said.
“And for us nothing is more important than the security of Hungary and the Hungarian people,” he said. “This is why we won’t meet his demands: we’re not sending weapons, not allowing weapons deliveries across our territory and we won’t cut off Russian energy supplies to Hungary.”
“Our disagreements are with the Hungarian left whose leaders have made it clear that that they would meet all of President Zelensky’s demands, thereby dragging Hungary into the war, and would have the Hungarian people pay the price,” Szijjártó said.
He said that in the April 3 general election Hungarians would choose between the right “which guarantees peace and security” and the left “which would immediately drag the country into a war”.
