First Snowfall Could Arrive in Hungary within Days

Hungary Today 2022.11.16.

The first snowfall could arrive on Friday, the Hungarian Meteorological Service said on its Facebook page on Tuesday. According to the forecast, snowfall is expected in the northern Hungarian Mountains.

According to the service, on Thursday and Friday, a few degrees colder air will arrive over the Carpathian Basin with north/ northeasterly winds, and a Mediterranean cyclone will also form southwest of Hungary on Friday.

This will create favorable conditions in the northeastern counties for the precipitation to change to temporary snow or sleet, especially in parts of the northern Hungarian Mountains and possibly in the northern Great Hungarian Plain (Alföld), they added.

However, the meteorological service also pointed out that it is too early to talk about remaining snow or snowfall amounts, but that there is a chance of a few centimeters of snow in the northernmost areas and in the mountains.

In Hungary, Hungarian Public Roads has also switched to winter mode throughout the country a few days ago. In the coming months, some 2,500 people will be working on the necessary winter road maintenance tasks.
