First Pilots Finish Skyfox Training ahead of Delivery

Hungary Today 2025.05.23.

AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE, Czech aircraft company, has successfully completed the training of the first group of Hungarian Air Force pilots on the Aero L-39 Skyfox tactical training aircraft. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the strategic collaboration between the aviation manufacturer Aero and the Hungarian Air Force, paving the way for the upcoming delivery of the first aircraft to Hungary, reads the company’s press release.

The pilot training program began with theoretical instruction and familiarization with rescue equipment, followed by aircraft type-specific training and qualification for instructor roles. The curriculum also included night operations and missions conducted within the training and tactical system (VTS), culminating in group and tactical flight exercises. All participating pilots passed their final evaluations and are now fully equipped to integrate the L-39 Skyfox into operational use.

This was a challenging and complex program which the pilots managed with a professional attitude. They confirmed not only the high level of their abilities, but also the quality of training that Aero offers,”

the release quotes Petr Doubek, Director of Aero’s Approved Training Organization (ATO), as saying.

The L-39 Skyfox is a modern, multi-role aircraft platform designed to fulfill a wide range of missions—from advanced pilot training to light combat and reconnaissance. Offered in both Western and Eastern configurations, it complies with EU and NATO standards. The Skyfox integrates advanced avionics, a powerful jet engine, and superior flight characteristics, making it ideal for training pilots for 4th and 5th generation fighter aircraft as well as for conducting joint operations with ground forces.

The handover of the first L-39 Skyfox aircraft to the Hungarian Air Force is scheduled to take place shortly, with the final date dependent on the completion of final preparations.

Hungary will join Vietnam and the Czech Republic as operators of this state-of-the-art tactical trainer.
