Fifteen Manufacturers Offer Companies the Purchase of Electric Cars with State Support

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.10.18.

Companies can now purchase at least a hundred electric cars from fifteen manufacturers with government subsidies, the Ministry of Energy announced on its Facebook page on Thursday.

The government has been supporting domestic companies buying pure electric cars, vans, and minibuses since February this year. The applications received so far amount to HUF 18.1 billion (EUR 45.2 million) and account for 60 percent of the HUF 30 billion (EUR 74.9 million) program.

There are now 3,900 applicants who have requested state support for the purchase.

BYD cars remain the most sought-after, with a quarter of the 4,674 vehicles applied for, just under 1,200 units, coming from the Chinese manufacturer.

The top three in the Top 15 are BYD, Tesla, and Volvo, with Hyundai, Cenntro, Nissan, Volkswagen, Dacia, Toyota, BMW, Opel, Ford, MG, Mercedes-Benz, and Citroën.

The tender is a major contribution to the fact that Hungary has been at the forefront of the expansion of the electric vehicle fleet in Europe for many months.

The social media post also highlighted that

the Ministry of Energy is doubling its funding for greening transport.

In a call for proposals to be launched in November, the ministry will allocate HUF 28 billion (EUR 69.9 million) to tackle the white spots in the rural electric charging network. Modern stations will be set up at around 100 new locations outside the capital.

Thanks to efforts made so far, greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector fell by 11 percent last year, reversing the trend of previous years.
