Ferencváros is Hungarian Champion for the Fifth Time

Hungary Today 2023.05.08.

Ferencváros won their fifth consecutive title and 34th overall as second-placed Kecskemét, their main rivals, lost 1-0 to Budapest Honvéd in the opening match of the 30th round of the OTP Bank Liga on Friday – reports m4sport.hu.

As a result, Kecskemét can still draw level on points with league leaders Ferencváros but can no longer overtake them, as the Green-Whites have five more wins to their name.

Ferencváros has set a 110-year-old record with its five title wins, as between 1908 and 1913 Fradi, then led by Imre Schlosser, won five titles in a row – the longest run in the club’s history.

In the past 29 rounds, Fradi has won 18 games, drawn six and lost five. They have scored the most goals (58) and conceded the fewest (27) this season. Ryan Mmaee scored 12 and Adama Traoré 11 goals in the 2022/23 season, making them the two most successful players in the league this season. Both are at the top of the National League’s scoring charts.

Ferencváros, already champions, defeated visiting club Kisvárda 3-0 in the 30th round on Saturday. After this victory, the fans joined the players in celebrating the 34th title.
