Participants at the 4th Demographic Summit in Budapest concluded that “there is no alternative to the family” and agreed that there is no sustainable future development without more children born, Katalin Novák, the minister without portfolio in charge of family affairs, said in her address wrapping up the two-day event.

Novák called for a continued firm commitment to representing traditional values and the passing of decisions on measures that support establishing a family and raising children.

She highlighted the importance of the summit, saying that “there is a need to have such opportunities when we can talk and can think together”.

Novák welcomed that this year’s summit was attended by top government officials from eight EU member states, adding hope that” by 2030 the majority of EU member states will be pro-family”.

“As far as we’re concerned, we are going to work to achieve this,” she said.
