Pesti Vigadó will host the Hungarian Violin Festival, going on for a decade and a half now, on Saturday and Sunday.
The two-day event of the Music Section of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMA) will offer a rich program of all-round artistic events, with the focus on the presentation of new works by today’s stringed instrument makers, the MMA informed MTI on Thursday.
In addition to young violinists, the organizers will also evoke the great masters of the past.
The highlight of the weekend will be a musical discussion on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Hungarian violinist Vilmos Oláh receiving an Emmy Award,
and the event will include a discussion of Johannes Brahms’ Sonata in D minor, which was premiered at Pesti Vigadó in a performance by the composer, Jenő Hubay.
The press release quotes violinist Ferenc Szecsődi, a full member of the MMA and the main organizer of the event, as saying that
the focus of the lecture, entitled “Hungarians Turning Fate – Jenő Hubay was born 165 years ago,” are major life events and the Hungarian violin school of Hubay.
The lecture will include a performance of Móni Kakuk’s fictional work, Maradok Rózája, inspired by the story of the composer’s love affair with Róza Cebrián. The weekend program also includes a traditional wine tasting.
The event is free of charge, but registration is required in advance on the Pesti Vigadó website.
