Instead of the 2025 EU budget, which further extends the power of Brussels bureaucracy and finances war, we need an EU budget that serves peace, the interests of European people, families and nations, and sovereignty, the Fidesz-KDNP Group in the European Parliament said on Thursday.
In a statement, the group said that Tamás Deutsch, on behalf of the Hungarian national group of the Patriots for Europe group, the Fidesz-KDNP delegation to the European Parliament, had submitted proposals for amendment to next year’s EU budget. In its EU budget proposal for 2025, the European Commission plans to commit EUR 199.7 billion and pay out EUR 152.7 billion, as well as borrow EUR 71.8 billion, the statement recalls.
According to Tamás Deutsch, “instead of a budget that continues to encourage illegal migration, we need a budget that supports border protection, protects Europe and Europeans at last, and delivers aid.” The delegation leader added that this is why
Fidesz and KDNP MEPs would increase the EU’s border protection spending by EUR 2 billion, and at the same time they would initiate the allocation of this resource to cover the costs of Hungarian border protection.
Members of the group also proposed that the European Commission deduct from this sum the “absurd” fine imposed by the European Court of Justice on Hungary for detaining illegal migrants. Tamás Deutsch believes that the time has come for the EU to finally have a budget that supports national sovereignty instead of “institutional political blackmail,” “jihad on the rule of law,” “gender ideology and woke-ideology,” and “the Soros network.”
“That is why we have proposed a radical cut of EUR 170 million in the budget, that allows ideological political blackmail of member states,” he said. “Instead of cutting Hungarians further, we need a budget to protect and bring home the Hungarian development, Erasmus and research and development funds that are rightfully ours.
We propose to increase cohesion funding in the EU budget by 10 percent, i.e. EUR 2.8 billion, while at the same time blocking 5 percent of the budget, i.e. almost EUR 1.5 billion, to prevent development funds that are legally due to Hungary but have not yet been paid out from being spent for other purposes or in other countries,”
the head of delegation said.
The delegation also proposed to increase the Erasmus program by EUR 23 million and the research and development budget by EUR 700 million, and to block around EUR 100 million of the funds to ensure that the money Hungary is due cannot be spent elsewhere. Other proposals include an increase in funding for infrastructure investment to help the Western Balkan countries join the EU, and an increase in the agricultural budget for young farmers, European beekeepers and the promotion of EU agricultural products outside Europe.
