Justice Commissioner of the European Union Didier Reynders stressed the importance of maintaining the “Article 7 procedure” until Hungary’s issues are resolved.
While acknowledging Hungary’s advancements in judicial reforms, Mr. Reynders expressed concerns about compliance with fundamental rights and transparency. Momentum (progressive) MEP Anna Donáth proposed linking EU fund disbursement to Hungary joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, ensuring proper fund utilization. Fidesz (conservative) MEP Tamás Deutsch asserted Hungary’s sovereignty, rejecting political pressure from Brussels and affirming Hungary’s commitment to defending its values and interests.
According to Tamás Deutsch, Hungary faces attacks in Brussels due to its pro-peace stance, rejection of illegal migration, and opposition to gender ideology.
Mr. Deutsch criticized the resolution condemning Hungary, highlighting the country’s resilience in defending its interests despite challenges. He questioned the European Parliament’s focus, citing neglect of pressing economic issues and the impact of Brussels’ sanctions policy. Mr. Deutsch attributed the scrutiny of Hungary to its defiance against political pressure and firm stance on migration.
Fellow Fidesz MEP Bence Rétvári argued that the recent migration pact vote in the European Parliament contradicts the will of European citizens.
He emphasized citizens’ desire for security and rejection of migration. Mr. Rétvári criticized the disproportionate burden on Hungary and advocated for border protection. He condemned Brussels’ plans to divert funds and enforce migrant quotas, and insisted that the voice of the Hungarian people must reach Brussels to prevent Hungary from becoming a migrant country.
