Esztergom Kicks off the Festival Season with Exciting Family Events

Hungary Today 2025.04.23.

Esztergom’s most eagerly awaited spring events kick off the festival season in the northwestern city at the end of April. Water, land and air will be the main attractions, while the Esztergom Days will also take place on the long weekend of May 1, Turizmus.com reports.

Then and Now Vehicle Expo – April 26-27

At the Then and Now Vehicle Expo, two- and four-wheeled vehicles of the past and present will be brought together at the Rugby Club on Prímás Island. Like last year’s event, this year will see over 100 veteran vehicles on display, including trucks, cars, motorcycles and bikes, as well as the best cars and bikes of today. Apart from an exciting journey through time, there will also be dance and fitness shows, and live concerts.

Lantern Boat Parade – April 30

On the last weekend in April, the Lantern Boat Parade will take place, a decades-old event that will see boats and ships decorated with creative elements and colorful lights, as they glide along the Little Danube (Kis-Duna). The parade will start at 8:30 p.m., followed by a concert by the Bon-Bon band at 10:00 p.m. and the Szalai Band at 11:00 p.m. at the Rugby Club.

Family Sightseeing Flights Weekend – May 1-3

After the ground vehicles and watercraft, you can soar above the clouds in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters at the Family Sightseeing Flights Weekend. The three-day event is organized by the Ernő Rubik sr. Airport, and can be visited during the long weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. The world’s fastest ultralight aircraft, the SHARK, will be on display, as well as winged aircraft such as the Murphy Renegade, the Bulldog, a scale version of the Italian-designed MB-339 training and combat aircraft, and the Cmelak Z-37.

Meanwhile, on the ground, there will be a real festival atmosphere: in addition to a wide range of gastronomic delights, the older ones can enjoy military tradition-keepers’ show and target shooting, while younger children will be entertained by children’s games, craft activities and Süsü, the Dragon (a beloved character from a Hungarian hand puppet television series). Admission to the event is free of charge, while the ride and some activities are available for a fee.

Esztergom Days – May 1-4

After more than seventy years, Esztergom was declared a city with county rights again three years ago. To mark the occasion, a four-day series of events is being organized this year on the long weekend of May 1 on Széchenyi Square. The Esztergom Days will feature family and children’s activities, including bouncy castles, face painting, glitter tattoos, exciting concerts, a craft fair and a wide range of gastronomic specialties.

All the events can be visited free of charge.
