The European Parliament has announced the names of MEPs to sit in new committees established on March 10, and Hungarians will have seats in the committee investigating the use of Pegasus spyware and the committee on foreign interference in all democratic processes in the European Union.

The Committee of Inquiry to investigate the use of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware will include Balázs Hidvéghi of the ruling Fidesz party, Sándor Rónai of opposition Democratic Coalition, and Anna Donáth of opposition Momentum.

The Special Committee on foreign interference in all democratic processes in the European Union, including disinformation, will include Andrea Bocskor (Fidesz), Hidvéghi and Donáth.

The report also condemned state organisations in Hungary and Poland, among others, of illegally using the NSO Group's Pegasus spy software to eavesdrop on journalists, human rights activists, and politicians.Continue reading
