The recent European Parliament elections reveal a strong desire for change among Europeans. Despite this, EP parties have made agreements that disregard voter preferences, putting them under pressure to realign their policies.
At the Mathias Corvinus Collegium’s MCC Fest roundtable in Esztergom (Central Hungary), Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister’s Political Director emphasized the need for a realistic approach to migration policy, stating,
the time for ideological questions is over; a realistic approach is needed.”
Speaking in a Central-European panel at MCC Feszt:

Former EU Commissioner Ján Figel criticized the underrepresentation of the Patriots for Europe (PfE) group, noting it as a deficit in representativeness with potential negative consequences. Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz observed that while the elections indicated a shift to the right, it was not a revolution. He highlighted the Greens’ loss of voters as a sign of diminishing support for the woke movement and cancel culture.

Mr. Orbán argued that despite changing rhetoric, actions have remained the same, pointing out, “words may have changed, but actions have not,” referring to the European Court of Justice’s fines against Hungary for its migration policy. He also noted that the war in Ukraine is influencing the European power structure, with the Brussels elite maintaining strong support for Ukraine.
According to the PM’s Political Director, a shift in global dynamics, such as a potential Trump presidency, could change the political landscape in Europe.
Ján Figel warned that Europe’s division by war weakens it, while Chancellor Kurz suggested keeping diplomatic channels open is crucial. Balázs Orbán identified restoring communication channels as essential for peace, stating, “new weeks create new opportunities to discuss the most important issues.”
