During an interview with the M1 news channel, the candidate of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) for the European Parliament emphasized the importance of pragmatic decision-making based on common sense prevailing in the elections on June 9.
Lóránt Vincze articulated the desire of Hungarians in Transylvania for the European Union to reflect their values: an organization grounded in common sense and tradition. He envisioned a robust Union capable of supporting regions striving to catch up, such as Transylvania, West-Romania, Szeklerland, and Banat.
Mr. Vincze also stressed the need for increased support for local communities residing in these regions, especially when their mother country is unable to provide assistance. He expressed disappointment in the lack of such support so far, which has led to dissatisfaction with EU leaders and decisions.
He noted that the upcoming weeks are crucial for addressing these concerns through the elections.
Discussing the Minority SafePack initiative and minority rights, Lóránt Vincze highlighted the European Parliament’s overwhelming support for it, contrasting it with the European Commission’s dismissal of the initiative. He expressed disappointment in the Commission’s failure to uphold its promises, particularly Ursula von der Leyen’s personal assurance of support for the Minority SafePack.
Mr. Vincze emphasized the significant role of RMDSZ’s MEPs in the European Parliament, not only for Hungarians living abroad but also for minorities across Europe. He asserted that alongside many other Hungarians, they are crucial advocates for minority protection.
