Enhancing Passenger Comfort and Modern Security at Debrecen Airport

Hungary Today 2024.03.13.

Terminal expansion works are commencing at Debrecen (eastern Hungary) Airport, with a HUF 300M (EUR 751K) investment aimed at expanding the passenger hall and the security control area.

This investment includes new equipment which does not require to take out large electronic devices from hand luggage during security checking, as reported by airportal.hu. Additionally, the current investment will enhance the capacity of the security screening, leading to shorter queuing times for passengers proceeding to the transit area.

The expansion project is set to increase the useful floor area of the terminal by nearly ten percent.

As the number of flights increases, there is a pressing need to modernize and expand the waiting halls and places affected by passenger traffic, such as security and passport control. The construction works will not disrupt normal operations.

The airport operator anticipates continued growth in flight numbers following a temporary decline in traffic in previous years. They expect the expansion to result in an increase in available destinations, with twelve expected from Debrecen by 2024.

Tamás Király, Managing Director of Debrecen International Airport Ltd., expressed confidence in a robust summer season ahead, despite the reduction in flight numbers earlier in the year.
