Hungary does not want to sink together with Europe, Serbian director Emir Kusturica said at a film festival in Hungary.
Serbian director Emir Kusturica, well-known for movies such as Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, or Black Cat, White Cat, attended the Alexandre Trauner Art/Film Festival in Szolnok, central Hungary on Saturday. According to Magyar Hang, Kusturica’s lecture was supposed to be about art and film-making only, but he also made several remarks on world politics.
The director said that “Europe is essentially a colony of the United States, but many people do not realize this.” Referring to Hungary, he said that there is an EU Member State which will not let itself sink together with Europe.
“If the United States wants to fight Russia, why do they not attack from the direction of Alaska?”, he asked, adding that he thinks the United States is seeking to destroy Europe.
He said he also does not understand why Volodymyr Zelensky, “this bad actor,” is being celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival. According to Kusturica, the Ukrainian President “is only driving everyone towards the abyss.”
Magyar Hang noted that Kusturica is known for his pro-Russian stance, which is considered controversial.
