Some of the most influential figures of conservative public discourse have taken note of the success of Hungarian family support policies that have so far managed to slow population decline. Reacting to U.S. media pundit Tucker Carlson’s interview with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, entrepreneur Elon Musk and Canadian publicist Jordan B. Peterson seem to have found the policies of the current Hungarian government inspiring.
As soon as Carlson’s interview was aired, it hit the headlines of global media outlets on all sides of the political spectrum.
The owner of social media giant X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk was clearly one of those who enjoyed listening to the program and seems to have taken notice of what Prime Minister Orbán had to say about family policies. In his tweet he reacted by saying,
Very interesting. Hungary is trying hard to address their birth rate problem.
Musk’s reaction was retweeted by renowned Canadian psychiatrist and published author of several bestsellers Jordan B. Peterson, who said that “The Hungarians have an extremely impressive family policy: Mothers income tax exempt: 25% one child, 50% two children, 75% three, 100% four. Lifetime exempt.
They have raised female participation in the workforce, decreased divorce, decreased abortion rate. Their President Katalin Novak is a firebrand”.
