Hungary capped off a remarkable performance at the U23 Kayak-Canoe World Championship on Sunday, in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, securing 11 podium finishes on the final day of competition and clinching the top spot on the overall medal table.
The Hungarian squad claimed eight gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals over the course of the championships, making them the most successful nation at the event.
Sunday’s gold medal winners included the junior men’s K-2 500m duo Iván Mircse and Vilmos Szabó, the U23 mixed C-1 5000m relay team of Dávid Uhrin and Borka Zagyvai, and the U23 mixed K-1 1000m team of Lőrinc Halmy and Eszter Rendessy, who delivered a powerful sprint finish.
Hungarian paddlers also added four silver medals to the tally on the final day. Notable performances came from Hanna Havadi Holló and Hanna Glória Acélos in the junior women’s K-2 500m, the U23 women’s C-4 500m crew of Panna Győre, Dóra Horányi, Borka Zagyvai, and Csepke Molnár, Marcell Gazdag in the junior men’s K-1 500m, and the junior mixed K-1 5000m relay team of Huba Borda and Vivien Leskó.
Bronze medals were earned by Alíz Gombás and Hanna Pető in the U23 women’s K-2 500m, the junior women’s C-4 500m team of Iringó Bernáth, Léna Hamar, Luca Poszpischil, and Iringó Júlia Kis-Batka, Dorina Decsi in the U23 women’s K-1 200m, and Anna Mészáros in the junior women’s K-1 200m.
The championships showcased Hungary’s continued strength in sprint canoeing, with athletes excelling across multiple disciplines and age categories.
