Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky (L) with Mohamed Zaki
Egypt is an indispensable ally for Hungary in the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration, Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said in a video posted on his social media page on Monday, after meeting with Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki in Egypt, honvedelem.hu reported.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky stressed that they reviewed the issue of illegal immigration and terrorism in North Africa, as well as the situation in Sahel, directly neighboring Egypt. He said that the Sahel region’s “stability and balance is important for Hungary, as it is considered one of the starting points of migration.”
According to the minister, they also touched on the Russian-Ukrainian war, on which the two countries share the same view: “a ceasefire and peace talks are needed.”
They also reviewed the points of cooperation between the forces of Egypt and Hungary and touched on the defense industrial development, which is important for both sides.
Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that Egypt is self-reliant in many respects, and Hungary is also seeking to rely as much as possible on its own defense industry for force development.
In this respect, the strategic interests of the two countries coincide. They agreed to explore the possibilities of cooperation,
the minister added.
