Education Support for Hungarian Children Abroad Increases

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.04.12.

This year’s calls for proposals of the State Secretariat for National Policies in Hungarian in the Homeland (Szülőföldön magyarul) program have been published, according to which the educational support for Hungarian children abroad will increase from 22,400 to 100,000 HUF (59 to 265 EUR), Árpád János Potápi announced at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.

The state secretary for national policy said that the fundamental national policy and national strategy goals will not be abandoned in the difficult economic situation caused by the war, and that mother tongue education guarantees the survival of the community in every foreign region.

The aim is to ensure that parents enroll their children in Hungarian-language schools. Children who go to such institutions are more likely to retain their Hungarian identity,”

he stressed.

The allowance is always paid after the end of the school year and will be paid to the families concerned in August-September this year. The support is available to nursery, kindergarten, primary, and secondary school pupils, as well as college and university students in neighboring countries. The calls for proposals are available at www.kulhonimagyarok.hu and www.bgazrt.hu.
