The low-cost airline, EasyJet, will connect Lyon in France with Budapest from August 21, reports Airportal.hu.
According to information available on EasyJet’s booking system, flights will operate twice a week between Lyon Airport Saint-Exupéry (LYS) and Liszt Ferenc International Airport from August 21.
The timetable has been uploaded until the end of the summer season, but according to a statement from Budapest Airport, flights will operate all year round.
In August, flights will be operated on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while from the beginning of September, flights will be operated on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Before the COVID pandemic, EasyJet operated this route with an annual capacity of nearly 50,000 seats from 2019-2020. Following the relaunch, the airline expects to initially increase the number of seats to 38,000 per year and
hopes to increase the frequency of flights in the next summer timetable based on the high seat occupancy rates achieved in the past.
The route’s traffic in 2019, was predominantly made up of leisure passengers from France, but the route has subsequently become increasingly popular with Hungarians. Budapest Airport forecasts a similar trend in 2024.
Lyon’s sights are concentrated in three areas: historic Vieux Lyon (the old town, on the bank of the Saône River); the Presqu’île (the peninsula between the Saône and the Rhône), and Fourvière Hill, with its white Notre-Dame Basilica glimmering above the city.
