Islamist terrorists attacked a Catholic church in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 worshipers.
In response to the tragedy, the Hungarian Government is sending emergency aid to the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Hungary Helps program, which supports persecuted Christians. Tristan Azbej, the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, wrote on his social media page:
“Islamist terrorists attacked a Catholic church in Komanda, Democratic Republic of Congo. At least 40 people lost their lives. Hungary stands with persecuted Christians and is sending emergency aid to the region through the Hungary Helps program.”
We condemn the global persecution of Christians and the indifference of the West. We pray for the victims.”

The eastern Congo region has been the scene of violent attacks for years. The local population is often targeted because of their religious beliefs, with Christian communities particularly affected.
