Over the weekend, Liverpool faced Bournemouth in the Premier League. The match was special because Dominik Szoboszlai, the captain of the Hungarian national football team, played for Liverpool, and Milos Kerkez, another Hungarian national team player, was playing on the other side of the field, for Bournemouth.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s contribution to Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth was unquestionable and his performance impressed English journalists. Most of the articles about Liverpool’s Premier League game praised the Hungarian midfielder, reports Nemzeti Sport.
The Daily Mail gave Dominik Szoboszlai a 7.5 rating, with only Diogo Jota’s performance rated this high.
Kerkez Milos’ performance for Bournemouth was rated 5.0. The Sunday Times gave Dominik Szoboszlai an 8, while Kerkez Milos got a 6. Moreover, The Observer wrote Szoboszlai shone and helped Liverpool find themselves.

The Sunday Mirror also gave the Hungarian footballer an 8 point rating, while Milos Kerkez was given a 6. The Sunday Express highlights that Jürgen Klopp’s side really came alive after the red card, with Diogo Jota “finishing the job” for the third goal after Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot. The Hungarian midfielder also helped Mohamed Salah to score his first league goal of the season from the penalty spot, and his rating was 8 (Kerkez Milos 6), as was Luiz Díaz’s.
The Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe praised Szoboszlai after the game as well, writing that if this was a taste of the Hungarian’s menu today, he will be serving up Michelin-starred dishes this season.
Another highlight of Saturday’s game was that Dominik Szoboszlai was voted Liverpool’s player of the match.

He played the entire match, had five successful set-pieces, the most touches (90), the most accurate passes (65) and the most passes in the attacking third (21), not to mention fighting out a penalty for his team.
After the game, Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai changed their jerseys on the pitch. Szoboszlai said that they had already discussed it ahead, and jokingly added that he would now have something to wipe the dust off.
The Hungarian footballer told Hungarian public television channel M4 Sport that he is hardly ever satisfied with himself, but he is still happy to have been able to put in such a performance. “I am happy with the team’s performance and pretty much with my own, but that was just for today, from tomorrow we have to focus on Newcastle United.”
Milos Kerkez said that the team and the coach had discussed that they had to play aggressively from the first minute and show Liverpool that they would not line up defensively but go forward and attack. “We did that in the first twenty or thirty minutes but we cannot attack all the way against a team with such good players. I am proud of my team because I think we played well, we just did not get the result this time,” he recalled. He also jokingly recalled that he told Szoboszlai after the game that although it was a penalty when he fell inside the 16 meter area, he thought the Liverpool player was acting a bit.
